Breckenridge releases special small batch Port Cask Finish Whiskey

Breckenridge Distilling’s Port Cask Finish Whiskey is a five year old bourbon that was moved to tawny port barrels, each ranging up to twenty years old. Breckenridge allowed the bourbon to undergo a secondary maturation in the port cask for between 4-6 months.

This particular small batch, specialty craft bourbon starts with a very high rye content, providing a bold, spicy note. By inducing the second maturation in the port cask, that tangy rye flavor is softened and some vinous, dark fruit notes develop in place of its bite, providing a much smoother, mellower finish.

Breckenridge Port Cask Finish is best served straight or with one very large ice cube. It would be ideal for cellaring until the holidays when out of state company may come to visit.

Because of the additional flavoring barrels and the extended aging time necessary to meld flavors, the Port Cask Finish bourbon was a very limited prototype production for Breckenridge. Consumer response and expansion will have a hand in similar future experimentation for this popular Colorado distiller.

Due to its limited production, Breckenridge Port Cask Finish Whiskey can be tough to find. Wyatt’s Wet Goods is one of the few liquor retailers in Boulder County to offer this unique run.
