Highland Journey is a bold, full-flavored blended malt Scotch whisky from Hunter Laing & Company. It is inspired by a train journey in the 1950’s, when Stewart Laing’s father took him to the Highlands to visit distilleries, igniting his passion for whisky.
Highland Journey includes only malt whiskies from Highland distilleries such as Blair Athol, Clynelish, and Teaninich, matured in both oak bourbon and Spanish sherry casks.
Its nose begins reminiscent of porridge before sweeter notes of freshly baked brown bread, vanilla fudge, floral heather, and red apple skin appear.
Its palate has a decidedly creamy and buttery mouthfeel that is surprisingly sweet at first, with front flavors of lemon cake and vanilla custard. It then swiftly develops into bold, spicy notes of cinnamon and cracked black pepper, leading to a medium length, malty finish with elements of honeyed barley and crushed almonds.
At 46.2% ABV, it has a nice tempered heat and is pleasant for both sipping and as a mixer.
You can get Highland Journey Scotch Whisky, as well as many other fine Scotches, at large, family-owned liquor stores that cater to the discriminating whisky drinker, as well as those just beginning their fine malt journey.
