World Sake Day Tasting

Tuesday, October 1 is World Sake Day!

To celebrate, Wyatt’s is conducting a very special sake tasting from 4-6:30 pm, on October 1st.

World Sake Day or “Nihonshu no Hi” is a significant day on the Japanese calendar with celebrations held annually on October 1st. This date is considered “New Year’s Day” for sake, marking the first day of the sake making season in Japan. October is the best time for sake production as it is just after the harvest of sake rice, with the winter season that follows being the best season for fermentation. World Sake Day was made official in 1978 when it was recognized by the Japan Sake and Shochu Makers Association.

Wyatt’s will be featuring the following authentic sakes in our tasting:

(All of these are best enjoyed slightly chilled.)

Tozai Living Jewel Sake, Junmai from Kyoto, Japan: Clear with lightly yeasty aromas of dough, Asian pear, creamy nougat with a silky, fruity-yet-dry medium body and a refreshing melon, kiwi coconut cream, and dusty potato accented finish. A vibrant Junmai sake that will excel with spicy Asian dishes and appeal to wine drinkers. 91 Points, Beverage Testing Institute Review. 14.9% ABV.

Tozai Snow Maiden Junmai Nigori Sake: A bright opaque cream white color leads to earthy singed anise and banana-coconut custard aromas lead to a fruity full body with flavors of honey baked apple, Asian pear skin, and praline notes. A crisp finish with an accented fade. 91 Points, Beverage Testing Institute Review. 14.9% ABV.

Yamada Shoten “Everlasting Roots”: Like their ancestors who did not have access to modern brewing technology, the Yamada family mills their own rice in-house and they brew at ambient temperatures without heating or cooling control. Savory and rustic style with smoky, nutty aromas and flavors of melon, orange, and clove, it pairs well with glazed salmon, pork buns, and charred octopus. 91 Points, Beverage Testing Institute Review. 15% ABV.

Shiokawa Cowboy Yamahai: This unabashed, brew is fit for a cowboy – made in the ancient Yamahai style, loaded with umami, it pairs beautifully with hearty dishes. Complex and layered, with aromas of cocoa and smoke with a rich and smooth finish. Try it with grilled steak or shellfish, chicken mole, or a big beef stir fry. 19% ABV.

Along with these selections, other sakes will also be on sale, along with hundreds of items throughout the store.

Join us in the back at Wyatt’s Outlaw Bar for a celebration of sake.

As always, all participants must present valid I.D.
