Join us this Saturday, March 4, for a special joint free tasting from Leopold Bros. Distillery and the Sanitas Brewing Company.
In 1999, Scott and Todd opened a brewery on Main Street in Ann Arbor, Michigan called Leopold Bros. The operation quickly became popular, and they expanded to distilling, releasing their first spirits in 2001. They were well-known for their eco-brewing techniques, using organic ingredients, and effective management of water and waste byproducts. In 2008, operations moved to Scott and Todd’s home state of Colorado, where they continue to make their award-winning spirits in Denver.
This Saturday, we will be sampling the following selections:
Leopold Bros. New York Apple Whiskey:
The best apple varieties New York state picked, juiced, and blended with Leopold Bros. whiskey, creating a supple and warm spirit. The apples oxidize in charred American oak barrels, where notes of dried fruit, apricots and raisins are developed. The spirit is naturally colored by the barrel and apple juice used, and not by artificial coloring agents. Like all Leopold Bros. spirits, this is bottled by hand to maintain the integrity of the tart apples and round caramel finish. 40% ABV.
Leopold Bros. Michigan Cherry Whiskey: Created from one-of-a-kind Montmorency cherries, Leopold Bros. Michigan Tart Cherry Liqueur brings something new to classic cocktails like Manhattans, Singapore Slings, and Gin & Tonics. While most cherries are categorized as sweet or tart, the Montmorency cherries maintain a unique balance between the two flavors that is not found in any other varietal. The result is a versatile liqueur with exceptional flavor in both cocktails and cooking. 40% ABV.
Leopold Bros. Rocky Mountain Peach Whiskey:
Colorado Palisade peaches are de-stoned and macerated, then strained and juiced to blend with the whiskey. It is then rested in charred American oak barrels, where notes of vanilla, raisin, and oak are pulled from the barrel. This spirit is naturally colored by the barrel and peach juice, without the aid of artificial coloring agents. 40% ABV.
Leopold Bros. Rocky Mountain Blackberry Whiskey:
The finest blackberries from the Rocky Mountain region are harvested over the summer, juiced, and blended with their whiskey, creating an intensely rich spirit. The whiskey rests in charred American barrels, where notes of vanilla, raisin, and oak are pulled from the barrel itself, flavoring the whiskey. The spirit is naturally colored by the barrel and blackberry juice used, resulting in a sweet blackberry flavor and a delicate finish. 40% ABV.
Leopold Bros. American Orange Liqueur:
Leopold Bros. steeps Curaçao and Bergamot oranges in their proprietary spirit, then distills the oranges, separating the clean citrus aromas from the bitterness that is inherent in the citrus pith. The liqueur is then sweetened with agave, but remains drier than other orange liqueurs. Belgian candy sugar gives it a bit of a lasting confectioner’s finish. 40% ABV.
Leopold Bros. Three Pins Alpine Herbal Liqueur:
Created in the European tradition, Leopold Bros. use local ingredients to induce a flavor of the Rocky Mountains in this complex herbal liqueur. Enjoy the floral notes of its botanicals and the spice of its warming finish. 35% ABV.
