This Friday, January 18, Wyatt’s is offering a free tasting featuring the Boulder Beer Company.
The Boulder Beer Company is Colorado’s first craft brewery.
In 1979, two professors at the University of Colorado received the 43rd brewing license issued in the United States, creating Boulder Beer. The original site of the brewery was a small farm northeast of Boulder, the brew house sharing space in a shed originally housing a few goats.
In a world of light yellow lagers, Boulder Beer won industry and consumer accolades for its line of bold Boulder Beers: Boulder Porter, Stout and Extra Special Bitter. Five years later, the brewery moved to its current site in Boulder and expanded from its original one-barrel brewing system to a 50-barrel brew house with top-of-the-line packaging equipment. In 1994, they converted the original tasting room into a full-menu pub and scenic patio under the Flatirons.
Friday’s samplings include:
Buffalo Gold Golden Ale: A Colorado favorite since 1989, Buffalo Gold is the definitive golden ale. The mild maltiness gives way to a unique floral character generated by a perfect balance of Cascade hops. Our lightest beer in flavor, it’s an easy-drinking beer that still packs a stampede of flavor. 4.8% ABV, 20 IBUs.
Hazed & Infused Pale Ale: Brewed with a diverse mix of hop varieties, Hazed & Infused blends a piney, earthy, floral nose, with added fruitiness in flavor from the Simcoe. Although big hop aroma and flavor hit you up front, a relatively small early hop addition keeps the bitterness very low, making this hazy, deep golden-colored brew one of a kind. 5.0% ABV, 38 IBUs.
Due East New England-Style IPA: Due East uses a blend of three fruity, juicy hops, with a double dry-hopped addition post-fermentation for big hop aroma and flavor without added bitterness. Hints of lemon, peach and pineapple cut through the subdued bitterness of this hazy New England-Style IPA. 6.9% ABV, 70 IBUs.
Pulp Fusion Blood Orange IPA: Pulp Fusion Blood Orange IPA blends the beauty of an IPA with vibrant citrus flavor from the juice of blood oranges. It shines with a bright, golden color and finishes smooth without lingering bitterness. This commingling of aromatic hops and zesty blood oranges is a blood bath of citrus flavor! Pairs well with a Royale with Cheese. 6.5% ABV, 52 IBUs.
