Arta Extra Añejo Tequila lands in Longmont this weekend

Arta Extra Añejo Tequila, a five-year aged craft tequila from Colorado-owned Arta lands at Wyatt’s Wet Goods this weekend.

One of the most uniquely produced tequilas in recent years, Arta’s Extra Añejo is triple-barreled, aging for three years in American white oak, before being split between French cognac and Spanish sherry casks for another two years. All parts are eventually remarried, evolving the ideal of traditional tequila aging to a new artistic level.

“This process creates a complexity and a bounty of aromas that simply defies convention,” said Tony Mayer, owner of Arta TequilaArta Extra Anejo1

Unlike several tequila companies, Arta only uses only agave they grow on a single family estate to ensure it is of the highest quality and pesticide free. Practicing land preservation farming methods and hand-harvested by eleventh generation jimadors, Arta’s agave is slow baked to maximize a high sugar content. After crushing the agave four times to remove the juices, their third generation master distiller uses a proprietary yeast from fruit extracts (unlike bread yeast used in some other tequilas) and water from their private aquifer to craft Arta tequila’s unique flavor.

The Extra Añejo carries aromatic notes of toasted seeds, roasted cocoa, coffee, and almonds, its flavors of wild acorns, intense vanilla, and oak developing into jasmine and abundant cinnamon. It has a long finish which pairs well with decadent chocolate desserts or a quality cigar.

Arta Tequila was purchased in 2011 by Mayer to honor his father’s legacy. The company is Colorado-owned, but all products are handcrafted in the birthplace of tequila itself, Arenal, Mexico, mere minutes away from the town of Tequila in the Jalisco region.

Arta Extra Añejo won a silver medal in tasting and a bronze medal in packaging at the prestigious 2015 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Arta’s limited edition Extra Añejo is being delivered by helicopter to Wyatt’s this Saturday, July 2, at approximately 12:30 pm. Come out and see the landing in the nearby parking lot, then stay for Wyatt’s Arta Tequila tasting from 1-3:45 pm.
